year one celebrates toomer labzda's inaugural year of the gallery. joe brittain, blue curry, leah dixon, kate steciw and mia taylor will each present one work which incorporates paper – a traditional first anniversary gift.
accompanying the exhibition is a limited box set edition, which includes a piece by each artist in year one. (more details here)

as we look back on our first twelve months, we commemorate the artists’ achievements over the past year:
joe brittain: awarded NYFA 2011 sculpture fellowship, had solo show, AMP at toomer labzda in sept - oct 2011. group exhibitions include: NONILLION at Regina Rex, NY in jan - feb 2012, i’m not sure what to say (project with anne-lise coste) at SPRING/BREAK art show in march 2012, momenta’s spring benefit in april 2012 and currently has work in return to rattlesnake mountain (group show) at the Wassiac Project, NY, june 17 – september 2, 2012.
blue curry: group shows include: modern frustrations at summaria lunn, London, UK in sept 2011, emergency 5 at aspex gallery, Portsmouth, UK in oct 2011 – jan 2012, into the mix at Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft in Kentucky, KY in feb – april 2012, mad march hares at vegas gallery, London UK in march – may 2012. solo shows at toomer labzda in nov – dec 2011 and new works at art first projects, London, UK in may – june 2012. he will be an artist in residence at Art Omi, Ghent, NY in june – july 2012 and presents work in a group show, earth works, at PPOW, june 28 – july 27, 2012.
leah dixon: group shows include: step and repeat at toomer labzda in oct – nov 2011, Bcc#7 at stadium, New York in march 2012, brucennial in march – april 2012 and she presented a site responsive installation at SPRING/BREAK art show in march 2012. currently, dixon is an artist in residence at Skowhegan and she is preparing from her solo show at toomer labzda in 2013.
kate steciw: group exhibitions include: always the young strangers at higher pictures, New York in may – july 2011, monkey wrench at Horton gallery, New York, NY in june – july 2011, BAM next wave art, Brooklyn, NY, aude pariset, kate steciw and letha wilson at toomer labzda in jan – feb 2012, that is the dawn at gregor staiger, Zurich in feb – march 2012 and currently is featured in image object at foxy production, New York, june 1 – july 13, 2012. solo presentations include: love my way at primary photograph, New York in july – sept 2012, popular options at klausgallery.net in jan – feb 2012, live laugh love at the composing rooms, London, UK in may – june 2012 and she is presently focused on her solo show at toomer labzda in september 2012.
mia taylor: inaugurated toomer labzda with her first NY solo show, flat pack, in june – august 2011. artist in residence at the University of Sydney, Australia in sept – oct 2011. MATTER (group show) at A.P.T gallery, London, UK in oct – nov 2011 and solo presentation of C.H.E.E.R. Miami at NADA Miami in dec 2011. she will have work in a group show, what’s the point, at jen bekman, New York, NY, june 28 – august 4, 2012 and her second solo show at toomer labzda will be in march 2013.
