toomer labzda is proud to present its inaugural exhibition, by British artist Mia Taylor.
flat pack, Taylor’s first US solo exhibition is comprised of wall based sculpture and watercolor works on paper. Taylor applies paint to plastic and fluorescent washes to timber, creating assemblages of pedestrian objects, which cautiously cling to the wall. Her watercolors share the same delicate sentiment in construction and geometric form.
Taylor’s work borrows modernist ideals, which appear caught in a state of flux. She chooses nomadic, ephemeral and weightless materials, that as objects fall static and remain embedded in the space. The palette, scale and minimalist form unwittingly nods to a nostalgic feminine sensibility and an unsteady purity of play.
Mia Taylor was born in Bristol, United Kingdom in 1977 and currently lives and works in, London, UK. She graduated from the Nottingham Trent University in 1999 and received her MFA from the Chelsea School of Art and Design in 2005. Taylor has exhibited extensively in the UK, including the Whitechapel Gallery and Jerwood Space in London.
